HeyGen alternatives for product videos
HeyGen is strong at avatar-led video. If your product video should show the product rather than a presenter, here are the alternatives worth considering and what each is for.
HeyGen is a capable product and the category leader in AI avatars. People look for alternatives to it for two quite different reasons, and the right answer depends entirely on which one applies to you.
The first reason is that you want what HeyGen does and want to compare options — avatar quality, language coverage, pricing. The second, and in our experience more common one for product marketing, is that you started with an avatar tool because it was the well-known option, and then found that a synthetic presenter is not what your product video needed. We make a tool in the second group, so weigh this accordingly.
If you want an avatar tool
Synthesia is the closest direct comparison, with particular strength in corporate training and enterprise controls. Colossyan is worth a look for turning documents and decks into presenter-led video. All three are mature and the differences are real but incremental; compare them on language coverage, avatar likeness options and price.
If you do not want an avatar
| Tool | Best for | Key strength | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Descript | Editing a recording by editing its transcript | Removes filler words and tightens pacing without an editor | You still have to record the walkthrough first |
| Clueso | Turning screen recordings into narrated product walkthroughs | Adds AI narration and polish to footage you captured | Structure inherited from the recording you made |
| Arcade / Supademo | Interactive click-through demos | The viewer explores at their own pace | Not a video asset — cannot run as an ad or a homepage hero |
| Pictory / InVideo | Turning text or articles into short social videos | Fast, cheap, high volume | Stock footage, so the look is not specific to you |
| Canva | Template-based design with your brand kit | Full manual control, familiar to design teams | You do the production work |
| Frame24 | Brand-native product and launch films from your website and product UI | Original scenes in your palette and typography, real product UI, no presenter | No avatar option, and not an interactive demo |
The question that actually decides it
Ask what the viewer needs to see. If the answer is a person — because you are teaching a process, because trust comes from a face, or because the same message has to ship in twelve languages — then you want an avatar platform and HeyGen is a good one. Nothing on the list above replaces it for that job.
If the answer is the product, a presenter is competing with the thing you are trying to show. On a 30-second homepage film, screen time spent on a talking head is screen time not spent on the interface, and B2B buyers are generally trying to work out what the software looks like to use.
Frame24 vs HeyGen, side by sideA structural comparison by job: what each is built for, and when each is the wrong choice. What to check before switching anything
- Whether your existing videos actually underperformed, or just felt generic to you internally
- Whether the problem was the avatar or the script — a weak script fails in every format
- Whether you need the product interface on screen, which rules out several options immediately
- Whether you will make more than one, which makes brand consistency between films matter
- What you would lose — multi-language presenter versions are genuinely hard to replace
Switching tools is cheap. Switching because you assumed the tool was the problem, when the brief was, is not.
